Tragedy has struck the Volvo Ocean Race.

32 year old Hans Hoorevoets was washed overboard during a gale 1300 miles from Land's End, England.

The crew aboard ABN Amro 2 quickly recovered Hoorevoets but were unable to restore breathing to the sailor.  Medical advisement was provided via radio from a  hospital in England but it was too late for the veteran sailor.  Horrevoets is survived by a wife and a young son.
